Scooby Doo and the Legend of the Bunyip: Chapter 3
Chapter 3 Welcome to a Land Way Under Downunder The gang were enjoying their well-deserved vacation. The large white cruise ship glided across the open water as smooth as a slike beneath the blue sky. Over the past twenty days, they had been making the most of the many activities that the enormous ship had to offer from hang gliding to stage shows. Under the warm sun, they were spending the day at the pool. Velma was reading a book as she sunbathed in an orange bikini. She was completely engaged by the story. Each word transported her into the world of the author's creation. Shaggy and Scooby meanwhile had other more important matters to attend to. "Like come on Scoob. That buffet table just opened and we've got to be first in line before all the good stuff is gone." "Reah, rood rtuff." They rushed over carrying trances to the full buffet table. The man in the green swim trunks and the Great Dane looked in awe as they licked their lips. "Jackpot." They cheered in unison, then began to pick a bit of every succulent morsel they could see. Three women about the age of the gang were chatting when Fred walked by in a pair of revealing white swimming shorts with blue rings around the leg holes. The women couldn't help but be in awe at the sight of the incredibly handsome man with his impressive figure. "Meow." The woman with short black hair said. "Hi, handsome." The woman with brown hair in a bun called out. Fred turned to them. "We're just heading to the volleyball court if you would like to join." The woman with long blonde hair in a ponytail flirted. "Sorry ladies. I'm taken," he said before continuing on his way. "Awww." the brunette in a yellow bikini moaned in disappointment. "Why is it always the good ones who are taken?" the raven-haired woman in a red bikini whinged. "Never mind. Let's go to the volleyball court." The blonde in a blue bikini said. Then the three of them head off for a game. Three men in their twenties were talking among themselves, each with a drink in their hand, when Daphne walked by in a revealing purple top and green bottom bikini with two drinks for her and her boyfriend. Natural this caught the males' attention. "Hum-an, hum-an." The man with dark brown hair said. "Excuse us, ms." the man with brown hair called. Daphne turned to face them. "We were wondering if you would like to join us for a game of volleyball?" the man with red hair offered. "Sorry boys. I'm taken." She stated before walking away. "Oh." the raven-haired man in yellow swimming shorts said as the chestnut-haired man in red trunks took a sip of his drink. "Never mind. Let's get started on that volleyball game." the ginger in green trunks said, and then he and his friends headed off to the court. Shaggy and Scooby sat down next to Velma with a gigantic pile of grub on each tray. They began to devour their vast feast with great easies like a pack of wolves at a fresh kill. Velma was too invested in her book to notice anything. Fred jumped into the cooling pool water. He swam under the water before surfacing. As the water ran down his body, he saw his girlfriend placing their drinks next to their seats. "Thanks Daphs." He called. "You're welcome Freddy," she replied. She made her way onto the diving board. She cannonballed into the pool causing a splash. Unfortunately, the wave from the splash managed to soke Shaggy, Scooby and Velma, the latter of which was snapped out of her reading. "Daphne!" Velma yelled in frustration. She giggled as Velma wiped the water off her glasses. "Sorry, Velma." Daphne tried to hold in her laugh as did Fred. "Look on the bright side Velma. At least we'll dry quickly in this heat." Shaggy sheepishly said earning a glare. Fred looked at Daphne as she chuckled, as a cheeky idea formed in his mind. He sneakily crept up behind her and playfully grabbed her by the waist, then began to tickle her. "Fred, no. You know I'm ticklish there." she giggled. Fred stopped so she could catch her breath. Once she had she playfully splashed him. "Tag your it." she swam to the other side of the pool. "Come here you." he chuckled before chasing her. "Lovebirds." Velma rolled her eyes before trying to find where she had gotten to in her story. "What do you say Scoob? Are you up for a second helping?" Shaggy suggested. "Rno reed rto rsk re rwice." Scooby drooled. "Well then let's get it." The two made their way back to the table only to discover that a sign had been placed next to it which had a picture of them with a no symbol across them. "Ruts." "Looks like we won't be having anything until dinner time." Shaggy whinged. They turned and walked slowly and disappointedly back to the rest of the gang. Fred and Daphne were out of the pool, drying off. "What's with the glum faces?" Fred asked. "We're banned from the buffet table," Shaggy explained. "Rgain," Scooby added. "Cheer up guys. It's not that long until dinner and it's a beach barbecue." "Really?" They asked concurrently. Fred nodded. "The first meal will be having in Australia." "Speaking of which," Daphne interjected, pointing to the port side of the ship. They looked over to see the coastline of the enormous island. They rushed over to the side to get a better look, and even Velma put down her book to take a look. "Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you to Australia," Daphne said. They looked on in awe at the vast sandy beach filled with people from locals to fellow tourists. "It's beautiful," Shaggy said. "Rwo reeks rof runny." Scooby beamed. "We Better get our stuff ready before we dock," Velma suggested. They head back to their respective cabins, allowing the couple to chat to themselves. "I can't thank you enough for this," Daphne said. "Well, nothing too good for my Daphne," Fred said causing her to blush. "What are you looking forward to the most?" "Oh um, you know just the usual stuff," she said. "Seeing Sydney Opera house, Uluru, a kangaroo or two." "I'm sure will see more than just two." he teased. They parted ways when they arrived at her room. She entered and quickly packed her suitcase. She looked at the engagement ring. A look of determination covered her face as she placed the box into her suitcase. , A few hours later, they were at the beach, having dropped off their stuff at the hotel. Daphne was out in the ocean surfacing. She moved in rhyme with the wave doing serval impressive trickles that earned cheers from the many observers on the beach. "She is amazing!" Said a woman. "I'll say. She could give some of our surfacers a run for their money." her friend replied. "That's incredible!" A man expressed as Daphne came back to shore. She picked up her board and made her way to the spot where Fred was just starting to cook burgers and sausages on a barbecue grill, while Velma reading a guidebook. "You were fantastic out there." He congratulated his girlfriend. "Thanks, Freddy." She kissed him on the cheek. She picked up a bottle of sun lotion and began to rub some into her skin. "I'm just glad there are no sharks at the moment." "There's worse in the water than sharks," Velma interjected. "Boxer jellyfish for one. The most venomous animal on the planet." "Jeepers." "Thank goodness there are lifeguards on duty," Fred said flipping a burger. "Not if it's that one." Velma pointed to a tanned lifeguard with blonde hair and more buffed muscles than brain cells who was more occupied with showing off his physical constitution to a group of flirtatious young women than doing his job. The three could only stare in disbelief at how this lifeguard still had his job. Daphne then noticed the absence of the other two members of their team. "Where's Shaggy and Scooby?" "I'm not sure. Maybe they got lost." Fred guessed. "They're either at a food stand or they're over there." Velma pointed to where a few men were admiring a top-heavy woman with blonde hair and dressed in a revealing red bikini and was clearly enjoying the attention. "I don't see them," Fred said looking over the group. "Weird she seems like every man's dream date." She sarcastically stated. "Not for me," Fred said. "My perfect woman is someone who is smart, funny, beautiful and has lovely red hair." "You're not just saying that becomes I'm here." Daphne teased. "Of course not. You're the only woman for me." Fred kissed her on the cheek before returning to his cooking. , Shaggy and Scooby were out surfacing, or at least trying to. Unlike Daphne, the cowardly duo's talent for surfacing was on par with a sloth running a race against the Flash. They were barely able to keep their balance, waving their arms wildly. "Right, right, right!" "I am going right!" Shaggy said as they nearly fell off. Onlookers couldn't help but laugh at the comedic scene before them. "Hey, Billy get a load of these jokers will ya." A man called out. Unfortunately for Shaggy and Scooby, being a laughing stock was the least of their troubles. Under the water, something big was following them. "Ro reft." Shaggy turned nearly falling. "Rour rother reft." Suddenly they were knocked into the water as a huge great white shark burst out of the water and broke the board in two in its vicious jaws. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR!" They swam as quickly as they could as the predator pursued its prey. The hunt was on the carnivore homed in on its target getting nearer and nearer, catching up with them, and suddenly... from out of the blue an old orca ambushed the shark by the side. The apex predator caused a mighty splash, creating a wave that carried Shaggy and Scooby to the beach. They skidded across the hot sand until they arrived at a blue and green beach towel with orange flowers. "Like that was way too close." "Reah. Roo Rlose." "Great timing guys," Fred said. "Dinner is served." "Like what are we waiting for." Shaggy and Scooby grabbed a plate. As the friends ate their BBQ supper, they began to think about where they should go for their first full day in the country. "Maybe we should go on a wildlife boat ride," Velma suggested. "I'm down for that," Fred said. "I like the sounds of that. Besides it sounds very... romantic." She stated, playfully wrapping her arms around her boyfriend. He chuckled, blushing slightly. Just then three local women walked by. "Could you excuse me for a minute?" Shaggy said before getting up and heading towards the ladies. His friends gave each other a knowing look. Fred opened a bottle of extra fizzy cola and placed it by Shaggy's spot. "Hi, ladies." Shaggy introduced. "I was just heading down to the burger stand and I was..." "Eww." "Whatever." "Not on you're bloody life mate." The three ladies left, one of them flicking her long ponytail into his face. He signed and went back to his pals. "Cheer up Shaggy, you'll meet someone eventually." Daphne comforted as he took a glup of the cola. "But I already did meet her," he said. "Crystal?" Velma questioned earning a sad nod. "I miss her." A tear rolled down his cheek. It had been two years since they had met the aliens. It was one of the happiest moments of his life, his time with Crystal was out of this world, but alas it was not to be. "Rt's rok ruddy," Scooby said, trying to hold in his own tears as the memories of Amber entered his mind. "Just remember. It wasn't you or her. It was due to unfortunate circumstances." Fred said. "Look on the bright side, at least you still have us," Daphne added. A small smile slowly spread across his face. "Thanks guys." They smiled, and then they returned to chatting about the adventure that waited for them for the next two weeks.
